Did you know that Christians have celebrated all the saints on the first Sunday in November since the 9th century?
All Saints Sunday.
Most mainline churches will sing this hymn, written in 1864 by an English clergyman, William How. It was inspired by the cloud of witnesses referred to in the beginning verses of Hebrews 12:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12. 1-2 NRSV
For all the saints, who from their labours rest,
all who by faith before the world confessed,
your name, O Jesus, be forever blest.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
Worship is held in the Chapel - enter off 19th Ave. at Cambie St. | Coffee follows at 11:00.
